hello guys,

i am keeping red heads since some 5 years now. had them in 4 different tanks in different formations including 4/4, 1/2, 3/5 and lately 2/8.

i brought mine from germany(maltavi).

my experiece is that this fish is changing color:

1) according to mood and dominance;

2) according to presence of females;

3) BUT ALSO according to age.

My males always start with very few red:

young male(6months)

and gradually take more and more red by age until they get almost completely red when dominant and old:

old male(over 4 years)(the father of the fish in the first photo)

if this is an authentic fish from the lake, it will definitely be difficult for any ichtyologist to describe its color in a reliable way.
